About Svalbard

The "Svalbard" brand is named after the Svalbard archipelago, which is located to the north of the European mainland. These watches are inspired by the beautiful, extreme and challenging landscapes of Svalbard and are valued more for their elaborate artistry, aesthetic appeal and fashionable design, than for simple timekeeping.

"Polar Aviation" is dedicated to the brave and fearless pilots of Svalbard who fly between the islands of the archipelago in Dornier DO-228-200 planes, just like those shown on the dial. The "Solfestuka" model is named after the holiday celebrated when the sun returns to Longyearbyen after the Polar Night. A day when the northernmost sundial starts working again. The "Nordlys" (the "Northern Lights", in Norsk language) has special adornments symbolizing the waves of the Northern Lights. The "Isbjornen" (the "Polar Bear", in Norsk language) is the most noble animal living on Svalbard.

Svalbard

Svalbard ("Spitsbergen", in Dutch) is a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, located to the north of Europe’s mainland. Spitsbergen is the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago. Longyearbyen is the largest settlement, and administrative center of Svalbard, and has a population of over 1,000 people. In total, the population of all the islands of the archipelago is more than 2,600 people.

Northernmost Sundial

The world's northernmost sundial, which is located in Longyearbyen, was officially "unveiled" during the "Solfestuka" celebration in 2004. During the Midnight Sun, which starts on approximately April 26th and ends on August 16th, the sundial works 24 hours a day, unlike most of the sundials located to the south.

Solfestuka

"Solfestuka" is a week of celebrations for the return of the sun to Longyearbyen after 4 months of polar night. The first "official" day of the return of the sun ("Soldagen" in Norsk) is March 8th. This is the first day of the year when the Longyearbyen Sundial starts working again. One of our 24-hour watch is named in honor of the Solfestuka holiday.
